Little Treasures

I flew down to CA, but Mom drove, so I was able to load a few things in her car to bring home for me from Nan's storage. Besides the depression glass dishes, tea cup, and few little kitchen gadgets, most of them are now tucked away in Nan's hutch (actually not real sure what to call it) that I have admired my whole life and is now sitting in my living room. Somehow Mom (thank you!) managed to get it all the way home with the glass door intact. I have filled it with the little treasures that were my grandparents and great-grandparents. Also with their antique books along with books that I have collected.

I wish I had the key to this thing.

Most of my collection of old books fit in here.

Fisherman Toby, darning egg, Shinola shoe polish tin, horsehair broom, folding yardstick, cloth measuring tape, tweezers, and a really old box of blue matches. The large volume they are all on is a medical dictionary from 1892.

My great grandmother was a seamstress and milliner, and here are a few of her wooden spools of thread, and 2 thimbles. Upper right is a stitching hoop, 2 ivory crochet hooks, 3 packs of sewing and millinery needles still in the packages (gold leafed), and a needle threader made during WWII. The 3in Toby is of Robin Hood. I have no idea how old the tack hammer is.

Two plant misters, on the botany books. A record player needle tin, a tin with valves (not sure what they are for but there are still 4 in it), and a tin for split shot fishing weights. A mini oil lamp (I got from Bidwell Mansion when I was a little kid and it still works) and an old key from Nan's collection that I would play with as a child... sadly it won't work on the hutch even though it is the right size.

Antique coins (all silver oldest 1885 silver dollar), opera glasses, ivory dice, pocket knife, and a Sherlock Holmes Toby, all on my new Sherlock Holmes Complete works book that I got last year. It is the only book in here that isn't an antique.
Our insurance agent told us to take pictures of everything, so this post is perhaps a bit more detailed than you all care about, but I figured I would share it since I am trying to make a list and take pictures anyway.

That is so aweseom! You have a knack for arranging displays. I really should have you come do my house, since I have a bunch of old things I love and have collected over the years. I'm glad you did post in detail because the zoom out made me totally curious about each little item on the shelves!
